Shape

2011 October 19

Recently on a walk I noticed this pretty little flower on a tree and I thought it was such a beautiful and feminine shape… it got me to thinking about other things with this same shape.

The first thing I thought of was a chinese lantern.

Lanterns of course made me think of lamps.

I also began to wonder what other things might take their cue from this shape.

And of course one can’t forget the vase.

When choosing furniture pieces for clients, shape is the most important aspect – it defines the style, and gives rise to all sorts of opportunities.  Shapes inspire design as much as color or texture, and nature is the mother of that inspiration.

I love those flowers. What does it for me is how it comes in at the bottom. Tulip skirts, poufs, macarons, furniture legs in that shape — it is just sort of a sumptuous shape!
